OCHRE
OCHRE is my second painting in the Earth’s Heart series, through which I pay tribute to the primal strength of the Earth and its memory.
This work was born from a search for ochre stones in the mining area of Elba Island, sought as one searches for a fragment of history. I crushed and ground some of them into powder, repeating a gesture as ancient as humanity itself: the one used to create pigments for cave paintings.
In ochre there is matter, iron, and time: shades ranging from golden yellow to red to warm brown, bearing witness to a millennia-old story engraved in the earth.
At the center of the canvas, this living material becomes a gestural core. Around it, the precision of the geometric composition of circles—a hallmark of my artistic project—creates balance and order.
With Ochre, I wanted to transform a fragment of rock into emotion, to unite the archaic gesture with contemporary painting, and to invite reflection on the bond between humanity and the Earth, on the warmth and stability it holds.
The painting will be delivered to its owner together with a fragment of the stone that inspired it: a small, tangible bridge between the earth and the artwork, between the past and the present.
